SuperContainer FAQ:

So why are you doing “Document Storage” in FM Starting Point?

Document Management is becoming a critical technology for organized businesses. Business documents are being converted to PDFs for storage with desktop scanners, with most business trying to dump the files onto a file server “somewhere.” Businesses hope to be able to go back and find those documents if they need them. That’s going to be difficult because of the lack of organization. With FM Starting Point bundled with SuperContainer Hosted Lite, you have a FREE solution that will greatly help your ability to store your documents, attached right to the projects information in the database. Receipts or POs can be scanned and attached to your invoice records, etc. All totally FREE, and high speed. (as fast as your internet connection will allow). Can I use FM Starting Point as a “Digital Asset Management” tool? Put another way... Can I use FM Starting Point to catalog, store and track all my pictures, movies, or audio files?

The answer is yes, although FM Starting Point was not specifically engineered for this type of business. Typically, a media or advertising company (or even a photographer) will use a Digital Asset Management tool to keep track of all their materials they need to run their business. This cannot be reasonably done with FileMaker’s built-in Container fields, due to slow performance. SuperContainer and FileMaker make a great combination for this task. The FREE SuperContainer Hosted Lite is limited to 250 megs of storage, for FREE. However, “Digital Asset Management” will most certainly suck up more storage than that. To realistically run DAM, you will need to customize FM Starting Point for this task, and use EITHER SuperContainer Hosted Pro... OR... Super Container Enterprise/WorkGroup.

Does FMSP for iPhone and iPad work with Super Container?

As of this moment, it doesn’t work (at least not very well). This is an evolving situation and the makers of SuperContainer (360Works) know this issue needs to be addressed. Don’t plan on doing document management on FileMaker Go just yet.
